Especially around Christmas, Colmar is definitely worth a visit.
But even in summer and in spring, the small town in Alsace enchants with its beautiful, winding streets, delicious pâtisseries and excellent restaurants. Get all my tips and highlights around Colmar and the surrounding area.
Not far from the German border, the small and enchanting town of Colmar is an absolute highlight. It lies between the Vosges and the Rhine and is just a short trip away from the capital of Alsace, a town called Strasbourg.
The small town Colmar invites to walks and to explore a unique charm of half-timbered houses, flower bouquets and countless decorations. You can also combine your trip to Colmar with other activities such as hiking or you combine the city trip with a stop in Freiburg or Strasbourg. But more on that later.
If you want to travel to Colmar at Christmas time, be sure to book your hotel well in advance. The prices are relatively high, especially in December. But in spring and summer, you can book a relatively cheap room. Also on the weekends in summer you will find cheap and central hotels.
You will get the most beautiful location and the best view in a hotel right on the river "La Lauch". These can be a bit more expensive. As downtown Colmar is so small, you can stay a little further away from Little Venice. I can recommend you the Hôtel Saint-Martin and the Hotel Mercure Colmar Center Unterlinden.
Ideal is the downtown location and cheap parking is also right around the corner. From both hotels you are quick at all sights and you can just leave your car. Ideal for strolling the streets in the evening and tasting wines. Incidentally, 90% of Alsace's wines are produced in Alsace.

One of the biggest highlights in Colmar are the many restaurants and pâtisseries. It is a true foodie's paradise with delicious chocolates, delicious crepes, chocolates, macarons and of course 4-course meals and excellent wines. In the evening you can visit Place de l'Ancienne Douane Colmar, where you will even get small wines to taste and take away.
For breakfast, I recommend you necessarily the market hall directly in Little Venice or Little Venice.T here are a variety of treats, and you can sit on the outdoor terrace and enjoy the breathtaking views. Many offer products of the region. In addition to fruit and vegetables, there are also cheese, fish or delicious bakery products.
If you want to go out in Colmar, you will definitely be spoiled for choice. You can just let yourself drift and spontaneously choose a restaurant, because the kitchen in Colmar is amazingly delicious.
My restaurant tips for Colmar:
Restaurant La Soï

Le Fer Rouge

La Cocotte de Grand-Mère
Excellent restaurant with a small card and great staff!
Colmar is reminiscent of wonderful fairytale stories and from time to time you really feel like you have arrived in another time. There is something new to discover on every corner and in the evening, you will see so many lights and decorations. An incredibly romantic city, that actually reminds of Venice.
Stroll through the old tanners' quarter and enjoy the perfect lighting scene at the weekend, which puts the whole city in Alsace in a shining light. You have a beautiful view, not only from the market hall in Colmar, but also during a boat trip on the river "La Lauch" , From the water you can see the most beautiful corners of the city from a different angle.
The most beautiful sights in Colmar are, among other things, the house Pfister, which is exemplary for the French Renaissance architecture. The octagonal tower and the two-story wooden gallery are painted and wonderful to look at. In addition, you will find in Colmar the Maison des Têtes, decorated with 100 heads and masks.
During a walk you will pass by the Tanner's Quarter and Little Venice. Here you will find beautiful bridges and the river as well as the most beautiful motifs for taking pictures. A short walk along the pretty Quai de la Poissonnerie leads you to the bridge of St. Peter with a great view of Little Venice.
